As digital information technology becomes the mainstay of communications, business, interpersonal-relationships, and, essentially, everything we do, people are beginning to identify personally with the technology they use.
Apple and Windows, and even Linux to some degree, have been trying to position themselves as "the technology of choice." In all cases, especially the proprietary ones, it feels that humanity becomes limited by this positioning: "I am a very specific tool, one tool, and I depend entirely on it and its makers to make available to me whatever I could use to make my dreams come true."

We Are Open Source
public service announcement series.
Open Source is not just a suite of tools, it is:
It is a foundation upon which every human's talents can be brought together to build a better future, without massive monetary overhead.
It is based on a level playing field, and is about working together to build each other up rather than competing to take each other's places.
